As teenagers or young adults some might think that stress isn’t part of our lives but in reality it can be. There are assignments to complete, chores to take care of, and maybe a job or two to attend. At times it can be very stressful to think about ALL the things you have to do and how few hours in a day you have to complete them. In teens stress is usually kindly brought to you by school. Whether you’re in middle school, high school or college, projects and exams are given to you by your teachers. Stress is especially present when it comes time to take those oh-so-fun midterms or finals, or for those of you taking AP classes those tests that suddenly arrive in May. But have you ever asked yourself how God can help. First of all lets learn a little more of stress. Stress is “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.” This basically means it’s that feeling you get when you see you have WAY TOO MANY THINGS on your plate. It might cause some physical consequences as well: insomnia, weight loss, weight gain, or losing of hair. Now how many of you have experienced this in your lives? Raise your hands! Accepting Jesus in our hearts doesn’t grant us stress free lives but it does help us tremendously. Jesus Christ said these beautiful words, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John14:27). What does this mean in terms of our lives and the stress we might face? Well, through accepting Jesus’ perfect sacrifice we have received many beautiful gifts including salvation, redemption, and justification but we have also received His peace. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world”(John 16:33). This particular Bible verse has helped me personally through stressful times as it shows us the victory that Jesus has given us through His sacrifice on the cross. He “has overcome the world,” this means he has defeated anything that this world can throw our way. Whether it be fear or stress or anything else you can think of. He has OVERCOME the world. The tribulations in our lives are no match to God’s power and love. He has OVERCOME them. He overcame them for you and for me. He has given us His peace. There is nothing impossible for him and the stress you might feel is no exception to this. He has OVERCOME your stress. You now have that victory and that peace since He lives in your hearts. Let’s take a closer look at “Not as the world gives do I give to you.” What does this mean? The world offers different ways to manage stress, but are those options eternal? The answer..probably not. These only manage it. Our Lord’s peace does not last for a couple of hours or a couple of weeks, His peace is eternal just like Him. Have faith in Him and He will show you how calm you can be even though you are taking the same amount of exams or doing the same amount of homework each day. I once read that “Worry (which really is at the heart of many of our fears or stress) is assuming responsibility God never intended you to have." I hope this quote helps you guys. Bendecidos. |
